Exit A1 from North Point MTR station takes you onto Java Road with a view of North Point Ferry Pier in the distance.  

The lady on the left is a maid from Indonesia who is helping her employer sat on the steps outside.

The building over Exit A1 was covered in bamboo scaffolding which was being dismantled.

Bamboo scaffolding is remarkably strong and flexible and is visually beautiful.

The black plastic tags which tie the bamboo together and now lying on the pavement.  

This scaffolder was catching poles from above and rather worried for the passers-by.

On of the many incongruities of Hong Kong: someone has decided to use the pavement space to dry their seafood. No-one steals this type of produce; perhaps they know it must be tainted by the petrol/diesal fumes from the road traffic?

North Point has many interesting street markets rather than the glossy shopping malls seen near the central MTR stations. So, I have included some photos here to show the true colour of this part of Hong Kong.

Cantonese Opera is undergoing a revival (?) and the Sunbeam Theatre is the place to go.

The streets have shops selling delicious looking cooked meats. Yet nearby you have fresh meat waste sitting around in open baskets.

This street had many interesting-looking shops. For example, this shop was making fresh tofu; you can see the excess liquid draining into the bucket on the floor. 

How could you resist taking a look at a stall like this?
