
The Miyagawa River divides oldtown and newtown Takayama. On the right of the river above, you can see the Miyagawa Morning Market. The fruit and vegetables were fresh and of a size you rarely see elsewhere. The Japanese still favour seasonal foods, and large red apples and huge root vegetables were in plentiful supply.



The river itself was an attraction because of the fish and fish-eating birds!



Guarding the bridge was this rather strange character:
